Vertellus Supports Life Science Industry with Portfolio of Reducing Agents and Custom Manufacturing Solutions

Company will showcase spectrum of pharmaceutical offerings at Chemspec Europe

(June 18, 2018, Indianapolis, Ind., USA) —Technical experts representing Vertellus’ active product ingredient (API) technologies and contract manufacturing services will be at Chemspec Europe, June 20-21 to present innovations in fine and specialty chemical technologies and custom manufacturing. As a global manufacturer of fine and specialty chemicals, experts will share how Vertellus’ toolkit of chemistries, technologies and custom manufacturing services are addressing the challenges faced by formulators and producers of pharmaceuticals in an increasingly global and highly regulated environment. During Chemspec Vertellus scientists and technology leaders will be discussing:

Custom Manufacturing Services: Vertellus will introduce Chemspec attendees to a broadened line of customized manufacturing capabilities delivering continuous improvement and global coverage, supported by a local team of experts. The company’s core technologies developed in its global technology centers are supported by local experts in the field who inform application strategies, and advise on issues ranging from sourcing raw materials to complying with up-to-the-moment health and safety legislation.

Vitride* Reducing Agent: A powerful liquid metal hydride reagent, Vitride is used in some of the world’s most sophisticated drugs, and is favored for its stability and ease of use compared to other reducing agents such as LiAIH4. Vitride provides formulators with a strong yet versatile reducing agent that allows for partial reductions and better control and solubility compared to LiAIH4. Thermally stable at temperatures up to 170◦C, Vitride is neither oxygen sensitive nor pyrophoric at ambient conditions.

ZeMac® Solutions by Vertellus Obtain INCI Listing for Use in Cosmetics and Personal Care Applications

ZeMac® Solutions by Vertellus Obtain INCI Listing for Use in Cosmetics and Personal Care Applications

(April 9, 2018, Indianapolis, IN, USA) — Vertellus, a global manufacturer of fine, specialty chemicals and plastic additives, has obtained INCI listing for ZeMac Solutions for use in cosmetics and personal care applications.  The ZeMac Solutions are water-based solutions of ZeMac copolymer technology engineered by Vertellus that are used as high molecular weight surfactants and size regulators in microencapsulation of fragrances, specialty inks and pigments as well as phase change materials (PCMs). These solutions were tested by an independent laboratory and showed no skin irritation. These results, along with other documents, have been recently approved by the Personal Care Products Council and ZeMac Solutions are now listed as “Aqueous solution of ammonium of poly(ethylene-maleate)”.

What does INCI stand for? INCI is an international designation for the declaration of the ingredients on the packaging of cosmetics.  INCI names are mandated on the ingredient statement of every consumer personal care product globally. The use of INCI minimizes the language barriers that often hinder consumer understanding and international trade. This INCI listing now opens up new applications for ZeMac Solutions in cosmetics and more broadly in personal care markets.

“The unique chemistry of the ZeMac copolymer technology and the high molecular weight of ZeMac E400 enables the polyionic effect. This makes it possible for microencapsulation formulators to obtain precise control of particle size distribution of these capsules, which is critical for applications in specialty inks and for permeation control in fragrances,” says Vertellus’ Global Development Manager for Plastics, Dr. Ashok Adur. “Another benefit in many shell systems such as melamine-formaldehyde is the tougher shell which allows formulators to down-gauge the shell. This enables higher payload of the encapsulant for higher efficiency in applications like phase change materials, resulting in lower net cost,” Dr. Adur added.

Vertellus will be discussing the technology and applications for ZeMac in microencapsulation during the 21st Microencapsulation Industrial Convention in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, May 21 to 24, 2018. During the convention, Dr. Adur will present a paper on “Use of ZeMac E400-based solutions for Size Regulation of Microcapsules.” Visit the Vertellus Personal Care Team at in cosmetics global in Amsterdam at booth P141 or NYSCC Suppliers Day in NYC.

Vertellus Morflex® 1129 (Dimethyl Isopthalate) to Enhance Improved Clarity, Flexibility and Strength in Polyesters

(March 14, 2018, Indianapolis, Ind., USA) —Vertellus is a leading global supplier of Morflex® 1129 (Dimethyl isopthalate, DMIP), an intermediate used in the synthesis of polyesters. Morflex® 1129 delivers strength, clarity, flexibility, good solvency and plasticization of polyesters.

Morflex® 1129 allows the manufacture of amorphous co-polyester elastomers used in automotive and consumer applications, supporting improved flexibility, low modulus and enhanced structural strength.

From a utilization perspective, Morflex® 1129 is increasingly being utilized for fibers, films and optical lens applications. It is used as a plasticizer or as an intermediate to increase the molecular weight of polyesters, contributing to enhanced mechanical and optical properties such as transparency.  Morflex 1129 also contributes to heat resistance and increased adhesion in PET & PEN type polyester films and laminating resins.

Morflex® 1129 serves as a key raw material for 5-Sulfo dimethyl isopthalate and in the manufacture of water soluble polyester resins. Some applications that source Morflex 1129 include textile film, metal, paper processing, paints and specialty inks.

From an innovation perspective, Morflex® 1129 offers potential applications across a breadth of industries such as automotive, consumer and industrial goods. Morflex® offers a key advantage in PET and PBT engineering thermoplastics by reducing the materials’ melting point and thus easing the processing of resins. This is achieved through reduced crystallization, which also helps improve flexibility, clarity and structural strength in polyester compounds. Other examples of potential applications for Morflex® 1129 include serving as a building block for increasing molecular weight and flexibility in recycled polyester and unsaturated polyesters.

“Vertellus is excited about the possibilities Morflex® 1129 brings to manufacturers and formulators of polyesters across a wide range of sectors,” said Prasad Taranekar, marketing manager at Vertellus. “This technology is presenting new options for manufacturers of both virgin and recycled polyesters.”
