3,5-Lutidine is precursor for the active ingredients in the drugs Omeprazol and Esomeprazole, proton pump inhibitors that decrease the amount of acid produced by the stomach. Popularized under patented brand names Prilosec and Nexium, these drugs are proven treatments for conditions where there is too much acid in the stomach, dyspepsia, heartburn, indigestion, ulcers, and acid reflux.
