Castung™ Dehydrated Castor Oil Series
Dehydrated Castor Oil (DCO) is well known for its non-yellowing and outstanding color retention characteristics. Varnishes, alkyds and resin systems based on DCO are noted for fast-dry, flexibility, excellent chemical resistance, adhesion to metals, high gloss and water-resistance. The Castung™ Dehydrated Castor Oils are the most controllable conjugated oils for kettle reactions and are frequently used to modify other oils and fatty acid systems.
Applications
In “cooked” varnishes, Castung™ Dehydrated Castor Oil combines with all the basic resins, rosins, rosin-esters, hydrocarbons and phenolics producing clear varnishes and vehicles for pigmented coatings.
Castung™ Dehydrated Castor Oil can be added to architectural latex paints, improving the wet adhesion to previously painted substrates.
Castung™ Dehydrated Castor Oils are primary raw materials for the production of fast curing short oil alkyd industrial coatings.

Castung™ 103 G-H is an unbodied dehydrated castor oil that is light colored and low viscosity. It is a triglyceride very high in linoleic acid content and no linolenic acid content resulting in light color and a non-yellowing property in its dry film. It can be used with pure and modified phenolic resins to obtain fast-dry coatings, alkali resistance for can linings, corrosion resistant coatings, traffic paints, ink vehicles and marine finishes. Castung™ 103 G-H is an excellent plasticizer for petroleum hydrocarbon resins and is preferred for alkyd and copolymer resins.
Castung™ 403 U-V is a bodied dehydrated castor oil polymerized to a medium viscosity. It has faster processing and drying times than Castung™ 103 G-H. This product also has the same non-yellowing and outstanding color retention characteristics. It is a modifier resin that imparts increased brushability and gloss in exterior coatings.
Castung™ 403 Z-3 is a bodied dehydrated castor oil polymerized to a higher viscosity. It has faster processing and drying times than Castung™ 103 G-H. This product also has the same non-yellowing and outstanding color retention characteristics. Castung™ 403 Z-3 is ideal as an aluminum paint vehicle because of its fast drying, flexibility, and low acid value.
