DBM (Di-n-butylmaleate) for PVA Coatings
Di-n-butylmaleate (DBM) is a key component in the manufacture of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) adhesives and coatings. Because of the structure of their alkyl chains, DBM increases both flexibility and hydrophobicity in PVA polymers.
This product is made in part from renewable, bio-based raw materials, enabling a more sustainable value chain. Fossil-based, water-soluble, and biodegradable, PVA is central to a wide range of coating applications. PVA-based systems offer good physical protection combined with high productivity. They are smoother than cellulosic solutions, with lower viscosity and superior adhesion.
Applications
Cheese Coatings
PVA containing DBM is approved for food contact applications and is ideal as a non-toxic protective plastic coating for cured cheeses. It regulates moisture, enables a range of finishes, and improves the shelf-life of cheese products.
Features
- Greater flexibility and elasticity in coatings
- Low content of isomerized product
- Approved for food and pharma applications
- Bio-based options available
- Ease of handling due to liquid form
