Corrosion Inhibitors
Corrosion inhibitors can vary in composition considerably but each when added to a substrate which can be subjected to corrosion will reduce the effect of said corrosion. A common mechanism the corrosion inhibitor involves the formation of a coating often known as a passivation layer which prevents access of the corrosive substance to the substrate. Corrosive substances are often oxygen, organic acid, inorganic acid, carbon dioxide, etc.
